Theodore Fremd was born in Germany coming to the United States as a young man. He established a meat market on Purchase Street in Rye in 1886 which he operated until 1946. He served as a trustee of the Village of Rye and its president from 1913-1926. He was a member of the Rye Board of Education from 1899 to 1938, serving as president much of the time.
